POTUS can simply say "NO BACK PAY".  Thats right, you don't work, you don't get paid.  Make every employee sent home  use their genourous Varaction/leave time to make up the difference.  Other than that, no work, no pay.  Guarentee the dems will get the message real quick, that NOBODY supports the shut down.

I like the other words I am hearing         shutdown = fired.

Trump can fire the majority of Washington, and its on Demonrats heads for allowing the shutdown to happen. As we have heard 100 times in the past - THEY OWN THIS!

Trump should be sitting down and negotiating rather than his version of FU it's my way or no way. Hell of a way to run a country. Employees will be fired and then, like they are now doing in variois departments, rehired when they realize you can't run the place with no experienced staff. A bunch of amateurs answering to Trump.

Or maybe demonrats can come to the table with less then a trillion in spending on people in the country illegally snd their other ludicrous demands.

Own it

It is no illegals but rather your neighbors who will see an average of 20% rate increase under their ACA insurance PLUS many will lose their subsidy. Bottom line is healthy will tend to drop it and sick will keep it. It will become a vicious circle.

You live with illegals in your head. Trump sent them home buddy...no big deal now.

So none left?  What is ICE doing???

Your delusional.

The unaffordable act should have been scrapped which we can blame on that idiot Jon McStain. I guess your OK with extra trillions in spending.  At least your consistent,  democrat spending is good and if trump caves you can blame the spending all on him, even though you support it and demanded it.   lol

Trump and the Republicans promised an improved plan but never had a plan so McCain voted NO. Why haven't the Republicans made it a big issue this time around? The reason the ACA is so expensive is that it covers pre exisiting conditions. The healthy people subsidized the sick ones. So, the Government tried to level it out by providing a Government subsidy. Now, the subsidy will be elminated and many will see a massive increase in their premium unless the Right buys into the Dem's plan.

The reason its so expensive was its design. Oblamer should have never passed it.

Why is it that the right always has to buy into demonrat plans and so rarely the other way?

My wife worked for EPA back when they had a long shutdown.  They were told two things on their way home: 1) your job is safe; and 2) you will receive full pay for the time you were out and your benefits will continue.  It was essentially additional paid vacation, with the paid being delayed a bit as she did indeed get all her back pay and lost no benefits.  I endorse your approach and would add that no jobs are certain when the shut down ends.  If you don't hear from us then consider yourself unemployed.  Apparently the OMB memo has already gone out to all department heads to RIF any Federal employee who works on a program not consistent with the admin's objectives if funding ends on October 1.

As for Democrat demands they do indeed ask that the part of the BBB that withheld Fed'l funding for illegals be rescinded at an annual cost of over $6B and mostly benefiting states that have added illegals to their programs.  The states can still do provide free healthcare to illegals but under the current law the Federal govt is no longer reimbursing them for those costs.   That is the sticking point, not the extension of subsidies that expire at the end of the year.  The WH and the GOP have rejected this demand because it provides free health care to 1.4M illegals that are not eligible for it.  Anyone who says the Democrats are threatening a shut down over subsidies to American citizens is uninformed or lying.  If Democrats drop the demand for free health care for illegals being reimbursed a shut down can be avoided.

Source from Grok:  Undocumented immigrants are ineligible for full federal Medicaid or ACA subsidies, but ~14 states + D.C. use state funds for coverage (e.g., California's Medi-Cal covers 1.6 million undocumented adults). The GOP bill passed in June 2025 targets this by slashing federal matching rates for ACA expansions in those states, potentially costing them billions unless they drop immigrant programs. Democrats in those states (e.g., Govs. Newsom, Pritzker, Walz) have already proposed cuts due to budget deficits, but congressional Democrats oppose federal coercion.

They are only going to RIF employees from programs that are not a priority of the current admin.  All others will be rehired.

As I posted below, it is indeed Federal funding for states that provide free healthcare to illegals that is the main sticking point.  Democrats want to rescind a portion of the BBB that removes the funding.  If states want to provide free health care to illegals they are free to do so but they will have to pay for it themselves.

Apparently its all ok to remove that clause, above gfy has assured us that all illegals have been deported and ice can stand down.

And in the real world gfy is still wrong and just wants Republicans to give in to their demands and take the blame for the demanded spending.

Let em own it like the have screeched for most of my life and don't let the opportunity pass without taking advantage to cut the federal workforce and remove much of the unelected people bottlenecking Trumps agenda.

You mentioned the Obamadon'tcare subsidies being cut.  Reality is these are COVID-era additional subsidies that were part of the Democrat written and passed Inflation Reduction Act that they intentionally set to expire at the end of 2025. The subsidies in the original horrible act are unchanged.
